Won’t Take BP
Often reported as “The Rosie keeps pumping up and deflating – won’t give a BP reading”. There is a small black switch on the back of the unit (just above the DISPLAY switch) that is labeled MEASUREMENT MODE. This switch has been accidentally bumped to the NEONATAL position. Switch it back to the ADULT/PEDI position.
IF THIS DOESN’T FIX THE PROBLEM – Look at the possible causes in the Rosie II section under “Won’t Take BP”.
Won’t Hold a Charge
Usually reported as “The Rosie shuts off when we try to take patient readings” or “The Rosie won’t hold a charge”. You will also hear “The Rosie keeps saying ‘Battery Low’”. The battery can no longer hold a charge and needs to be replaced. To verify this, remove the rear battery cover and disconnect one or both battery leads. Plug the Rosie into an outlet that you know is working. Power the Rosie on. If the Rosie DOES power on, then you know the battery is no good; however, if the Rosie DOES NOT power on, then you actually have TWO issues – 1) The battery is dead, and 2) The power cord is faulty. Both items must be replaced.
IMPORTANT NOTE #1: Verifying the power cord is the FIRST STEP in troubleshooting this issue. If the power cord is no good, it makes no sense to replace the battery until the power cord is replaced so that the battery can be properly charged.
IMPORTANT NOTE #2: Faulty and/or damaged power cords are very common among vital sign monitors and is the LEADING CAUSE of complaints about “batteries not holding a charge”. The cause for this problem is simple: Users disconnect the Rosie from the wall outlet by yanking on the power cord instead of grabbing and pulling the cord plug. Yanking on the cord causes tremendous stress on the internal cord wires and over time, the internal wiring of the power cord breaks. The result is a power cord that may look perfectly fine but doesn’t actually work at all. THEREFORE, THE BATTERY NEVER ACTUALLY GETS RE-CHARGED AND GRADUALLY DRAINS COMPLETELY.
